Blue discoloration of urine and skin: what the label says

The January 2024 FDA label for ProvayBlue, an intravenous prescription methylene blue product, states that it may cause a blue discoloration of the skin and body fluids, and that it passes freely into the urine.

The label also states that, because it is a blue dye in urine, it may interfere with the interpretation of urine tests that rely on a blue indicator, such as the dipstick test for leukocyte esterase.

These statements describe the cited product label. They do not establish the cause or significance of an individual color change or test result.
